William G. (Bill) Tilley

Boys, I am always amazed when I hear about Old Boys who are still making a significant contribution to society when one would think they would be resting on their laurels. Not so with William G. (Bill) Tilley. Last week William Tilley was awarded the Senior Volunteer of the Year by the City of St. John's at the council meeting of May 30, 2011. On June 1 he was recognized by the province with the Senior of the Year Distinction Award. We all know Bill Tilley as he served as Drum Major and led the CLB in their parades from 1939 to 2002, that's 63 years! He has been an active member of the brigade for 85 years. Currently he is the archivist for the CLB and when that historic building and its contents were destroyed in 1992 he set about to restore the archive and the result can be seen in the new building at its familiar place on Harvey Road. He still spends most mornings there in the archive. Three cheers and a tiger for William G. Tilley.
