Old Feildian Receives Rotary Club Award

 Dr. Nigel Rusted
Boys, I learned from The Telegram this weekend that one of our esteemed alumni has been singled out for an award. The Rotary Club of St. John's has name Dr. Nigel Rusted a Paul Harris Fellow. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary. The Paul Harris Award is given to a member who meets the high professional standards set by the founder of Rotary. Our Dr. Rusted certainly fits the bill in that regard and I know that all Feildians send him hearty congratulations for this prestigious recognition.

FAA Dinner and Auction

Wednesday, March 30, at The Canon Stirling Auditorium The Feildian Athletic Association (FAA) kicked off its funding drive to rehabilitate the Feildian Grounds in the city. The patrons were treated to a delicious dinner of steak and shrimp with tasty desserts to finish off the meal. After dinner there was an auction which raised funds for the new field house and upgrades to the soccer pitches. Over 250 people attended the function with many old boys among them. Bill Neal, long time member of the association was there in his 95th. year. Can somebody tell me if Bill was president of The FAA.....I believe he was?

A great deal of credit is due to Chris Facey, current president and Geoff Carnell, current vice-president of The FAA for the hard work in getting this dinner and auction off the ground. The volunteers which gave of their time and the sponsors who donated the wonderful merchandise which brought in the funds are to be highly commended.

There were players from other club teams and members of other associations which came out in support of this worthwhile venture. They are also to be congratulated. With the proposed upgrades to the historic grounds the city will have another jewel in its recreation facilities.

Bishop Feild Diary 1844 Published

Feildians, have you read the latest publication of Dr. Ron Rompkey, old Feildian? Ron has published the diary of our esteemed founder Bishop Edward Feild. I bought it at Chapters the night that Ron launched it. Although short, just over 100 pages, it provides an insight into Bishop Feild's struggles to resurrect The Church of England in Newfoundland. He was a determined man and against many obstacles built churches and schools throughout the island and Labrador. I encourage all Feildians to read it and thus get a better feel for the man who founded the school that we remember so fondly. It is my hope that Ron will continue his work on Feild and give us as complete a picture of the man as possible.

Boys, do not forget the lunch this Monday, February 28, 12:00 PM, at Wendy's, Torbay Road. See you there.
